UNLV Medicine to begin drive-thru testing via appointment

UNLV Medicine will start appointment-only curbside testing on Tuesday for COVID-19, increasing the test capacity for the coronavirus in Southern Nevada.

In a statement Monday, the organization said that those with symptoms as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or who have been in direct contact with a coronavirus sufferer are eligible for testing, which will take place in the parking area outside UNLV Medicine, 1125 Shadow Lane.

Test candidates can call 702-583-4408 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday–Friday to arrange an appointment, the statement said. Callers will be asked a series of questions to determine if they meet CDC criteria.

Nasal swab tests, which are free to patients, will be administered as the patient remains in the vehicle, and test results will be available in five to seven days, the statement said.

UNLV Medicine, the clinical arm of the UNLV School of Medicine, anticipates offering the tests for two weeks or until its supply of test kits is depleted.

UNLV Medicine joins Clinical Pathology Laboratories in boosting test capabilities in the region.

As of Monday, 212 people in Clark County had tested positive for the coronavirus, including four deaths, Southern Nevada Health District officials said.
