Every move President Donald Trump makes seems calculated to serve his own interests — the people and country be damned.
He has defeated all checks and balances. The Mueller investigation was set up to fail, and it did. The House is helpless. The Justice Department has been co-opted by Trumpians. Our national elections have been co-opted by Russia. GOP governors have been brainwashed. The press has been rendered almost inconsequential. The Senate and Supreme Court are in Trump’s shirt pocket.
Extremists can draw weapons on federal officers, create mayhem in the streets and occupy government buildings with little or no consequences. Truth has no bearing on decision making. Inspectors general have no job security. Ruthless foreign dictators are embraced while our longstanding allies are insulted and undermined.
Admitted felons such as Michael Flynn are praised. The dangerously divisive Rush Limbaugh is awarded the nation’s highest civilian honor. Laws, once-honored traditions, life-saving regulations and even our Constitution are spat upon with impunity.
The COVID-19 pandemic kills thousands of Americans daily, yet Trump sheds no tears. He can’t provide leadership or even get out of the way so others can. Instead, he inflicts confusion, lies and gross mismanagement upon the country and world.
All of this and many more outrages have occurred in Trump’s first three and a half years. Our country as we have known it might be finished anyway, but it will certainly be finished if Trump gets re-elected.
