LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Inclusion will help nation heal

America has spoken, and President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris now have the legal mandate to lead our nation forward. In Biden’s own words, President Donald Trump’s supporters and Republicans should not be labeled as “the enemy,” but as fellow patriotic Americans. The focus should be on cooperation, not confrontation. There should be an united spirit of patriotism and a sincere effort by all parties to start the national healing process.

A major step in this process would be in formulating Biden’s Cabinet. Not only should he consider capable and experienced Democrats, but he should also include Republicans and independents such as Mitt Romney, Christine Todd Whitman, Colin Powell, Gen. James Mattis, John Kasich and others. In the end, the composition of the Cabinet should be a true reflection of the American populace — yet another symbol of inclusion, not exclusion.

America must overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, invigorate its economy, provide safety and reassurance to its people, and restore its image around the world. To do so, it must first heal from within, unified in purpose as we move forward together as the United States of America.
