LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

COVID-19 death count is no honor

Johns Hopkins University reported recently that there were 7,113,666 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the United States, and 204,750 confirmed deaths.

In May, according to articles in Time, USA Today, Politico and other sources, President Donald Trump said he viewed the number of U.S. cases of coronavirus, the highest in the world, as a “badge of honor.”

Why? Because the still-increasing figure is a reflection of this country’s testing capacity.

“So when we have a lot of cases, I don’t look at that as a bad thing, I look at that as, in a certain respect, as being a good thing because it means our testing is much better,” he said.

There is so much more the American people can add to his nonsensical verbiage, but first, why don’t we have Trump ask the grieving families and friends of the thousands who have died from COVID-19, and the millions who have suffered and still may be suffering from the effects of the virus, if they consider it a “badge of honor.”
