Police: Man fatally stabs employee at taco shop

A transient man who walked into a taco shop asking for food and money fatally stabbed an employee who escorted him outside Sunday night, according to Metro Police.

The employee, a man in his early 30s, died from a stab wound to his heart, Lt. Ray Spencer said.

The suspect, who was not named, was found nearby with a knife on him, Spencer said.

The slaying happened about 8 p.m. in the 3600 block of Las Vegas Boulevard North, near Walnut Road, Spencer said.

The suspect was a known nuisance, so he was kicked out immediately, with the victim walking him to the parking lot, Spencer said.

An altercation ensued in which the suspect pulled out a weapon and stabbed the victim, Spencer said.

The suspect sustained stab wounds to his hands that detectives believe he suffered during the stabbing or were self-inflicted, Spencer said.

After treatment at a hospital, he was expected to be booked on a count of murder, Spencer said.

This was the latest slaying in a rare deadly weekend in the Las Vegas Valley.

Clarence Martin Jr., 32, is facing murder, arson and animal cruelty counts after he allegedly killed his 2-month-old daughter early Saturday by dropping her from a second-story balcony in the 10000 block of Jeffreys Street.

He took the baby from the child’s mother’s arms during an argument, police said. After he killed the girl, he torched the apartment, killing their pet dog, and fled in his car, crashing a couple times before he was taken into custody after a foot chase with officers at McCarran International Airport, police said.

In another incident, North Las Vegas Police were summoned shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday to the 4500 block of Whelk Place, where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. He died at University Medical Center, and although police hadn’t announced any arrests, they said it was not a random shooting.

About 20 minutes earlier, North Las Vegas Police responded to the 3300 block of Park Town Street, where a young teenager accidentally killed himself with a gun.

A dispute among a group of neighbors Saturday night in the 2900 block of Marlin Avenue led to a stabbing that killed a man, Metro said. The female suspect fled the scene, leaving her two children behind.

Early Sunday, a minivan passenger who was harassing pedestrians in east Las Vegas, slapped a bicyclist, causing her to fall and suffer fatal injuries, Metro said. The momentum caused the suspect, who had half his body outside the vehicle, to fall and sustain fatal injuries himself, police said.

The minivan driver was on the run as of Sunday afternoon, police said.
