While I agree with Sandra Jauregui’s guest column (Nevada must remain vigilant about gun violence, Las Vegas Sun, Sept. 6), I have something important to add.
While the Second Amendment does say “well regulated,” the next word is very important. The full phrase is “well-regulated militia”.
We have a well regulated militia; it is called the National Guard. The Second Amendment gives “we the people” the right to maintain a well regulated militia.
These citizen militias are not well regulated. The concept of people walking into Starbucks carrying an AR-15 or AK-47, or waving guns at people walking in the streets is not a so-called right that I served in the Air Force to protect.
