Several recent letters published in the Sun have tried to put forth the incorrect idea that the government has the right to deny air travel, access to post offices, restaurants and even going shopping to those who refuse to get the vaccine for COVID-19.
This kind of flawed proposal, justified by the premise that those abstaining are “threatening” their fellow citizens, ignores concerns among many Americans about the side effects of the vaccines.
If the ban on movement becomes a reality, we could see ourselves living in a society with heavy-handed government control over many aspects of our lives that government has no right controlling.
Such a society is precisely what our Founding Fathers, in their wisdom and firsthand experience with the repressive British government and rule over the colonies, warned us about. That is why they wrote the safeguards into the Constitution and Bill of Rights — safeguards that the current leadership is trying to get around and in some cases erase entirely.
