LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Nation must learn the truth

My mother hated lying. If she caught you telling a lie, you’d get a swipe of Ivory soap across your teeth — two swipes if you were a smart-aleck and thought you could get away with shading truth. Mom could spot a lie before you had half the words out of your mouth. I think she saw the insidious nature of lying, the deceitfulness. Liars, in her mind, were rotten to the core.

Mom’s gone, but anyone with a lick of sense can see through the lying and deceitful garbage the ex-president and his minions in Congress are spewing about the election and what happened Jan. 6.

Shamefully, Republicans want to punish two of their own, Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, for standing up for the truth in learning what brought about the storming of the Capitol.

It will be interesting in the days to come, when subpoenas are issued, to learn what part the ex-president, those close to him, and some Republican lawmakers played in instigating, promoting, planning or facilitating the insurrectionists in any way. It appears there are more than a few who have reasons to be concerned.

The truth of what happened, leading up to and including the Jan. 6 attack, must come out. America needs to know. The future of our country is at stake.
