LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Animals need land protected

I have been an animal lover my whole life. When I was younger, I would make homemade dog treats and sell them at school and sporting events. I donated the proceeds to local animal shelters. I have always been passionate about the well-being of animals.

Scientists have been urging the protection of 30% of our land and water resources by 2030 or it will be too late. More and more animals are facing extinction because there is not enough protected land area. Animals like tigers, polar bears, sea turtles and whales will go extinct in our lifetime if we do not act. To fight mass extinction, public lands can be the solution. The 30x30 campaign’s goal is to protect our land and water so we have a more viable future.

Please take a moment to call Nevada’s senators, Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, and urge them to sign the bicameral letter publicly supporting the Biden administration’s executive order to preserve 30% of U.S. land and water by 2030.
