It is exciting that President Joe Biden nominated a Native American woman to be secretary of the interior.
Deb Haaland, an enrolled member of the Laguna Pueblo, will be the first Native American and woman to head the Interior Department.
Part of the department is the Bureau of Indian Affairs, which has a past history of mismanagement but may now get the attention it deserves.
Haaland has a great deal of political experience and was elected to the House of Representatives from New Mexico. She has bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of New Mexico.
Haaland will serve our county well.
