Gun safety education is vital

Feb. 1-7 is National Gun Violence Survivors week. It is a time to share and amplify the stories of those affected by gun violence in our community. I can think of no better way to do this than for the Clark County School Board to pass agenda item 5.04(A), the Secure Storage Notification Resolution.

This resolution would require that a letter be sent to parents and guardians explaining the importance of secure gun storage and the legal obligations to protect minors from accessing irresponsibly stored guns.

I urge Clark County School District Superintendent Jesus Jara and the school board to enact this simple measure to help keep us all safe from the results of a firearm in the hands of a child.
