Ever since he was declared the loser in the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump has spent every minute trying to steal victory from the confirmed winner, Joe Biden.
Trump pressured the Department of Justice to overturn the election results, he pressured state election officials to “find” enough votes to declare him the victor, he filed more than 60 lawsuits claiming voter fraud that were thrown out of court, and he told his supporters to “fight like hell” to take “their” country back.
All of Trump’s efforts to steal the election have failed. Our democracy is still safe, but Republicans throughout the country are planning another theft. They are passing laws that will allow them to do what Trump failed to do: to steal future elections with false claims of voter fraud or to allow Republican legislatures to simply reject the will of the people and declare their own winner.
Our democracy is the greatest asset we have; we must protect it. We can’t wait until after it has been stolen to call in the Department of Justice to investigate how it was stolen. We must plan now to protect our democracy. We must fortify our electoral process and protect our democracy against all threats, foreign and domestic. Let your elected representatives know that you fear losing our most precious asset, the right to choose our leaders, and demand they act now.
