LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Global warming has ripple effects

Global warming skeptics take note of what is happening all around us: Mother Nature has been nudged into action, and research by the likes of the Environmental Protection Agency and National Wildlife Association indicate that plants and animals are moving to higher altitudes and to the northern latitudes in order to return to the most comfortable year-round temperature.

Now, extended dry weather in Central and South America is drying out crop land and making it nearly impossible for farmers living there, who provide most of our winter melons and fruit, to survive. Consequently, they are migrating to the United States in large numbers. The only way to stop this is to placate Mother Nature by curbing global warming. But this will take a long time, so in the interim, we need to consider ways to help people, perhaps through irrigation wells and such.
