LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Living in fear is not for everyone

In response to the New York Times story published May 20, “New honor system on masks: ‘Am I to trust these people?’ ”:

I understand that people are doing all they can to protect themselves from COVID-19, but they don’t need to be so distrustful of others. It is not up to the writers of that story to judge others and impose their will upon them.

We live in a society full of people, and part of the deal is interacting with them. If you do not like people and feel the need to control all aspects of your environment, there are places where you can live and limit your interactions with others. You will have all the solitude you desire, but at a price: no movies, dining out, social activities, bowling, sporting events, etc.

I will take my chances and look for good in all people. I cannot live in fear of the unknown.
