LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Officers should be ashamed

I would like to add to the May 20 letter “Letter dishonors military service”:

I’m a Vietnam combat veteran who spent 30 years on continuous active duty in the United States military. I read the letter endorsed by those 124 retired generals and admirals, and I viewed the names, ranks and service of those who signed it.

Not only did it embarrass me, it made me ashamed of them. They and I swore an oath to “uphold and defend” the Constitution from threats both foreign and domestic. Yet these retired officers signed on in support of an insurrection, signed on to cast doubt on a legitimate election, signed on to cancel the will of the American people, and signed on to disparage the reputation of a newly elected president.

They should be ashamed and embarrassed that they publicly cast their lot with the likes of Donald Trump, given every dishonorable thing that is public knowledge about him.

But what embarrassed me and made me most ashamed is that I served closely with two of those officers, and at the time, I respected them. But that was then.
