LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Don’t ignore home-grown hate

The writer of the Sept. 11 letter “Biden emboldens our enemies” has a huge blind spot when it comes to terrorist threats to citizens of the U.S., and his opinion about President Joe Biden’s actions are myopic as a result. I wonder if the writer noticed the complete disrespect former President Donald Trump showed our military on numerous occasions, or if his shallow criticism is only reserved for the far from “indifferent” Biden.

Meanwhile, a study by the Southern Poverty Law Center notes that far more destructive terrorism over time has come from right-wing organizations that are home grown and active in issuing threats, and carrying out bombings and murders in the name of a delusional set of beliefs about the history and future of the country. Remember Timothy McVeigh? I do. And let us not forget the violent insurrection on Jan. 6 just this year as an attempt to overthrow a legitimate election result and install Trump as a tinpot dictator.

Civilized people reject such homegrown terrorism but this letter writer is more afraid of “those people” who plotted 9/11 in countries other than Afghanistan. Fighting an idea militarily over there has only resulted in more death, and such stupidity will never make life better on our small planet.
