When we allow Russia to devastate Ukraine, we are morally responsible.
On the other hand, we are not the world’s policeman. The United Nations is worthless, as Russia sits on the Security Council with veto power.
I propose that we fix the UN by starting a new worldwide organization of democratic countries to jointly be the world’s policeman against aggression. This would have elements of NATO in that an attack on one country would be an attack on all.
“Democratic” would be defined as having free speech, opposition media, and free elections in which no leader would be in power more than a set amount of time, perhaps 12 years. This would stop rigged elections in which a ruler goes through the motions of elections but stays in power.
I would also propose that no member of the organization would be allowed to sell weapons to non-members: no more arms to dictators or kings.
In addition, tariffs would be eliminated except for limited exceptions. This worked for the European Union and would be an incentive for countries to join.
