The writer of the April 21 letter “Kidnapping gets a slap on the wrist” laments that Will Smith’s recent slapping debacle received a worse punishment than “the four men accused of plotting to kidnap the governor of Michigan.”
We all saw the Smith incident play out live on national TV, while the four accused men received a trial and were acquitted by a jury. Justice may not always be perfect but a trial by one’s peers, rather than a preconceived outcome derived by someone who is not privy to all the facts, is a cornerstone of our justice system.
