Bishop Gorman put up a fight, but fell Friday night to Mater Dei of California 24-21 in what is considered the national game of the week.
Mater Dei is ranked No. 2 nationally by Max Preps and Gorman is No. 6, meaning the California school could have an inside track at the mythical national championship.
The loss is especially heartbreaking considering the two teams' history.
When they played at Gorman in 2018, Gorman lost by the mercy rule, 42-0, in one of the worst defeats in school history. And in 2017, Gorman lost to Mater Dei in Southern California to snap a 55-game winning streak.
