LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Trump poisoning Republican Party

My alarm bells went off in early 2020 when reports indicated that the reality show personality-turned-president was talking with foreign leaders during his first impeachment, with no aides listening in on the calls.

The disgraced former president violated his oath of office many times, culminating in his blatant attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Donald Trump has literally confessed to sending then-Vice President Mike Pence to throw out the electoral count in seven swing states. Pence was to certify the ballots of forged documents presented by fraudulent electors on Jan. 6, 2021. Thankfully, Pence did not take the bait. Plan B was to unleash a violent mob on the Capitol to disrupt the certification of the Electoral College votes.

Lately, Trump has dangled pardons for the Jan. 6 rioters should he become president again. He is a dangerous man who is leading potential rioters into doing something violent.

The narcissist is telling us who he is. He is daring prosecutors to indict him. He has been caught red-handed and is unleashing his fury by calling prosecutors vicious, sick and racist.

The Republican Party has tethered itself to an unstable, chronic master of deceit who will repeat all of his past bad behavior. They must choose whether to follow Trump into a black hole or work to stabilize our democracy. I would like to see them stand for something instead of obstructing everything. Lead, follow or get out of the way.
