LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Cherish the miracle of life

My sincere gratitude to Bishop George Leo Thomas for his strong and exemplary leadership over the 800,000 Catholics in the Diocese of Las Vegas, and especially for his Jan. 27 guest column, “Congresswoman’s position on reproductive care inconsistent with the teachings of her professed faith.”

Thomas presented a clear and concise explanation of the moral teachings of the Catholic church, especially with regard to the sanctity of life and the meaning of the Eucharistic Communion. Many people, including some Catholics, have lost sight of the miracle of life, where the smallest human cell (the sperm), along with the largest human cell (the ovum) come together in a creative process that miraculously results in a human being with over 37 trillion cells.

Life is sacred, and the dignity of every human life, from conception until natural death, is precious. To extinguish life or advocate for abortion is an egregious offense.

Thomas is to be saluted for his much-needed and timely reminder of this to everyone, Catholic or not.
