The Supreme Court’s imbalance had its beginnings when then-President Barack Obama nominated Merrick Garland for a seat on the court and then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made certain that was not going to happen. It was not consistent with his conservative, Christian view of America.
Obama cowered and deferred.
Four years of a Donald Trump presidency gave the right wing just what it was looking for, and now we have the Taliban Court that seeks to wipe out many rights that were hard won and cherished by the majority of Americans.
If Democrats want to see their view of American values taken seriously, they need to have the temerity of Republican legislators and stand up to the political heat — something they are largely reluctant to do.
Our democracy depends on it.
