LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Divert rivers to aid dry states

There have been a plethora of harebrained opinions and suggestions regarding the drought we’re in and the water shortages in Lake Powell and Lake Mead, so here’s my harebrained idea and contribution: Divert water from the Missouri River while the water is still in Montana. Send the diverted water to Fontenelle Reservoir in Wyoming, then down the Green River to the Colorado River, and then to Lake Powell.

Then, divert water from the Snake River in Idaho and send it down to Lake Mead. Divert water from the Columbia River while it is separating Washington and Oregon, and send that water to California. Using pipelines will negate the necessity for canals. There will be jobs to be had and this meager bit of a solution could benefit the entire Western United States.
