Parties have gotten too rigid

The June 23 letter “Excluding voters hurts primaries” was spot on. Its writer said: “I am flexible with a few exceptions: no left-wing nuts, no right-wing fanatics, no pathological liars, no criminals, no racists. Just normal, sensible, middle-of-the road conservatives with a liberal bent.”

There are many of us out there who agree with the writer. The problem is that under our two-party system, neither party wants an intelligent, rational leader looking to solve problems. They only want people who will promote their specific and inflexible agenda.
