The writer of the March 16 letter to the editor, “America must depend on itself” blames President Joe Biden for pretty much all our problems. His arguments regurgitate of what shows such as Fox “News” or OAN propagate. This means he probably blames who he’s been told to blame rather than looking at the whole picture for himself.
Various factors are causing inflation, with every country, not just America, trying to acquire goods as inexpensively and quickly as possible. There are supply chain issues while consumer demand continues to rise. Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine isn’t helping, either.
Worsening the situation, most Republicans, not Democrats, claim “America first” while refusing to support ideas and proposals that benefit all Americans, such as reducing our dependence on fossil fuels by investing more in renewable energy. The infrastructure bill would’ve benefited every state but was slimly bipartisan when approved. Republicans also continue pushing the Keystone pipeline, which at best merely changes who most of our foreign oil comes from, as opposed to liberating us.
The world is complexly intertwined with America nestled in the middle, for now. What some people see as wasting money is often an investment in America’s security and future. What should concern everyone is wasting taxpayer money to disenfranchise voters, which only benefits those with a nefarious agenda.
It would be beneficial for us all to do our own research so we can make the most informed decisions we can about our nation and its future.
