LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Religion driving decision on Roe

When the Supreme Court throws out Roe v. Wade and declares that abortion is not an issue to for it to decide, it will do so in a 5-4 decision.

It will ignore precedent and tell us abortion was never mentioned in the Constitution. It does not matter that a lot of things were never mentioned in that document.

But we will all know the truth. We will know that those five justices made their decision on religious grounds. Of course, those grounds are not to be used in Supreme Court decisions, so the majority ruling will look a little odd.

People should not waste time trying to argue that there was some kind of good, judicial reasoning behind the court’s ruling. That would just insult our intelligence.

We understand that the court is giving the political minority a way to ban abortion in those states where they have control.

We must wrest control from that minority party. What else can we do? We believe in democracy. We believe in the three parts of our government. We believe in free and fair elections, even if the minority party doesn’t care about democracy or the Constitution.

It is called freedom of religion, but it also means freedom from religion. And it is this that the Supreme Court violates in its new majority decision.
