Las Vegas man driving sports car killed in crash

A man driving a small sports car was killed early today when he ran a red light and collided with another car, according to Metro Police.

The crash happened about 1:50 a.m. on West Flamingo Road at South Decatur Boulevard, police said.

A man driving a Mazda MX5 Miata was headed east on Flamingo in a left turn lane when he entered the intersection against a red light, police said. He collided with a sedan that was headed in the opposite direction and had the green light, police said.

The driver of the Miata, a 57-year-old Las Vegas man, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name was not released, pending notification of his family, police said.

The driver of the other car, a 26-year-old Las Vegas man, and a 22-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries, police said. The surviving driver remained at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment, police said.

The death marked the 120th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year. The crash remains under investigation, police said.
