LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Abusers must be held accountable

If Robert Telles killed investigative reporter Jeff German, as it is alleged, what was Telles trying to hide from the public? What didn’t he want to be known about his dealings as an attorney and elected official, Clark County public administrator?

Being the public administrator entails: 1) securing property of people who die in Clark County while a search for family is performed, and 2) administering estates in court when families cannot.

Sometimes people who prey financially on the vulnerable are part of the system that is supposed to be protecting the vulnerable. A recent local example is April Parks, who is in prison for guardianship exploitation.

Exploitation can be lucrative, and even more profitable as generational wealth is transferred into heirs’ hands. Sometimes it doesn’t work as it should, even with family trusts and wills because instead, unscrupulous people who know the legal tricks of the trade are able to steal inheritances through corrupt guardians or opportunists via probate court.

It’s been reported that Telles “poses a substantial threat of serious harm to the public based on the murder charge and recent trust account transfers suggesting potential mishandling of client funds.”

The more information that comes out about this case, the clearer it becomes, that Telles has not been held accountable for previous wrongdoings. If it is proven that Telles is part of an insiders group of white-collar criminals of elder exploitation, he must be held accountable for those crimes as well as the murder charge.
