LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

GOP overrun with RINOs

My wife confronted me with the notion that it was past time for me to give up on my political affiliation. She is joined in her thinking by many of my Republican colleagues. The circus that has subverted the party is embarrassing.

In my estimation, the GOP has been swamped by Republicans In Name Only, led by Donald Trump and including Josh Hawley, Kari Lake, Matt Gaetz, George Santos, Kevin McCarthy, Lauren Boebert, Jim Jordan, et al. The ridiculous, rude and hateful rhetoric coming from the RINO circus in no way resembles the stodgy, professional, conservative, decent and thoughtful discourse of traditional Republicans.

I’ve considered changing parties. However, this country was built on having two strong political perspectives that argue their way to reasonable consensus. To eliminate one of those perspectives leaves behind the sense of argument that has led the U.S. to its unique level of success.

The loss of that sense of argument was clear when Trump turned the presidential debates into charades. He pranced around the stage, grimacing and making faces while refusing to observe the imposed time limits. It was all very entertaining, won public approbation, had little to do with public policy, and left behind any sense of adult behavior.

I believe the RINOs are self-destructing. They are having a hard time coming to any agreement about anything. Meanwhile, I’m sticking with the GOP, hoping that the party can weather the insult of the RINO clowns and get back to the business of serious governance.
