LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Fix one problem, create another

During the last election cycle, Republicans campaigned against inflation they blamed on President Joe Biden. The price of gas, eggs and bacon were going up and up. But Biden didn’t create avian flu that killed off millions of chickens, causing egg and chicken prices to rise; Biden didn’t make Russia invade Ukraine, increasing the cost of gasoline; and Biden didn’t create the swine fever that resulted in the slaughter of millions of hogs around the world, increasing the price of bacon.

All of those complaints did produce one result: The fed raised interest rates, killing the housing market.

In Las Vegas, the median home value has gone down by more than $50,000 as a result. That would have bought a lot of bacon, eggs and gasoline.

Those reduced home values didn’t even make homes more affordable. Now, more of a first-time home buyer’s mortgage payments simply goes to the banks instead of paying down a loan’s principal.

There is an old saying that I think is appropriate: “Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.”
