LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Question looms in Baldwin case

I agree with Brian Greenspun’s Jan. 22 column, “Personal responsibility is no accident,” on the shooting death of Halyna Hutchins by Alec Baldwin. However, one question he did not ask was: Why was there live ammunition on the set?

I have worked on sets where there were scenes with multiple weapons being fired. Every weapon was inspected by two people and the individual using the weapon. I have also been involved with Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association events, and again, no live ammunition was allowed on site. The blank cartridges were handed to each rider to load their firearm.

Security and safety were very lax on the set in New Mexico. This is the issue. Why was there live ammunition on the set?
