Florence Petris, in her Saturday letter, said that Sen. Hillary Clinton lies. However, I could say that Sen. Barack Obama lies. Each sentence is true, depending on whether it is referring to Clinton’s misleading story about her encounter with sniper fire in Bosnia or Obama’s contradictory statements about his knowledge of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.’s controversial rhetoric. Petris added that Hillary Clinton is vicious and vindictive.
Instead of defending Hillary Clinton, I would like to call a permanent timeout on slurs, slams and squabbling. The Democratic presidential nomination process has been like a football game where “spectators” — and sometimes the stars — exchange mindless insults. Overcoming the “my team versus your team” attitude will correct the focus to the ultimate goal — the White House.
