FLASHPOINT:

So the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities …

So the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a nonpartisan group that has analyzed the budget picture in all the states, has some “helpful hints” for the states — and there are 25 or so — dealing with deficits. There are four pieces of advice. One, protect revenue from the effects of federal tax changes. Two, tap rainy-day funds. Three, don’t rule out revenue increases. And four, avoid “stimulus” tax cuts. If Gov. Jim Gibbons had not backed off his initial, stubborn refusal to tap the rainy-day fund, he would be zero for four on these suggestions. The center says increased taxes “can actually be less harmful for a state’s economy than big spending cuts.” Hello? Anyone there in Carson City?
