Regarding the Las Vegas Sun’s Friday story, “Chief defends cleared officer”:
When will the local police departments realize there can be tactically effective solutions that are also cost-effective?
Henderson Police Chief Richard Perkins claims he cannot afford to put a beanbag shotgun costing several hundred dollars in every squad car. I have a telescoping 21-inch, 800,000-volt stun gun baton in my home for self-defense and for use on walks in case of dog attacks. It is only 12 inches long in its “off” position and only cost $40.
I cannot believe that one of two officers, each holding one of these devices and encircling a suspect, could not get to a woman before she reached them with her 6- to 8-inch steak knife. Looks to me like they need to reevaluate their Taser guns as the nonlethal weapon of choice.
