When he was a congressman, Jim Gibbons used to be one of those guys who went on the floor to give one-minute speeches extolling someone, usually Ronald Reagan. It was a way to get free media, but pretty useless. I was reminded of that when I saw his news release headlined: “Governor supports Nevada legend Norman Kaye.” Seems the state’s poet laureate is recovering from a stroke “and is facing a significant pile of medical bills. His friends and colleagues have organized a benefit concert this weekend at the Orleans to help pay his doctors.” So how is Gibbons offering his support? No word on whether he is digging into his wallet or even attending the event. But he did do a news release. That’s support.
