Letter to the Editor:

Bush responsible for mess this country is in

Does anyone else notice that President Bush and the Republicans take no responsibility for what has happened to this country? In the past eight years the Republicans have been saying that everyone bashes Bush. Here are some proven reasons why Bush and the Republicans are at fault and should be held accountable.

Gasoline was $1.26 a gallon when oilman Bush took office. It’s almost $4 a gallon now, and still rising. Also, thousand of lives have been lost since Bush took office. Bush’s war has devastated thousands of families.

The tax break for the rich has plunged this country into a recession and very close to a depression. Our borders have been overrun because rich people are profiting from slave labor. The deficit is so high that Bush says nothing about China’s disregard for human rights, because the Chinese own this country.

The biggest thing Bush has done is to ruin the reputation of our country around the world. The use of torture, detaining people for years without legal help and dragging people out of their homes in Iraq is truly disheartening to watch.

Bush’s support in this country, according to a recent Gallup Poll, is about 28 percent. USA Today reports that Bush has scored “the highest disapproval rating — 69 percent — in the history of the Gallup Poll, which dates to Franklin Roosevelt’s tenure.”

People around the world and here at home are going to remember George W. Bush and the Republicans for decades to come. Can we ever mend and fix what has happened to this country in the past eight years? Only the future will tell. I truly believe that in Bush’s mind he’s doing a great job. Scary, isn’t it?
