Flashpoint:

Nevada Power was a busy company Tuesday…

Nevada Power was a busy company Tuesday. First, the utility touted how it is “leading the way” in green energy, courtesy of a self-congratulatory Earth Day-timed news release. The utility, as it likes to tell us whenever anyone has the temerity to bring up those rural coal endeavors, “leads the nation in geothermal and solar power per capita.” How many people are in Nevada again? The utility capped off the afternoon with a release about its purchase from Reliant Energy of a “natural gas-fired” generating station. Have no fear though, folks: The plant “utilizes ‘dry-cooling’ technology to conserve the area’s water resources.” And I bet the $500 million the utility will fork over to Reliant came from its renewable projects, right?
