Sen. Barack Obama wants to stimulate the economy by handing us another thousand dollars to help offset high prices. That’s fine for a couple of months, but it won’t do a thing to reduce prices.
Diverting the country’s corn crops to ethanol has already added a dollar to the cost of a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk, and the cost of food will continue to rise as ethanol production soaks up more and more of our farm crops.
If our politicians want to help us instead of just themselves, let them return the ethanol lobby’s contributions and retract the mandate that requires converting the country’s corn to fuel.
