The Democrats are simply partisans using “wild hearsay” to try to damage the Republican governor. And the GOP chief executive is simply trying to dodge a legitimate ethics probe after he said he welcomed it. Those are the opposing viewpoints that surfaced over the past few days from Gov. Jim Gibbons, in a letter to the Ethics Commission, and the state Democratic Party, in a news release. First, the notion that the Democrats could damage Gibbons is like saying a hunter could kill a deer writhing on the ground with 19 bullets in it. And for the Democrats to claim that this is anything other than using news stories to keep Gibbons’ bad press in the bad press is like watching Claude Rains be in shock in Rick’s. But it is good theater, nevertheless.
