Democracy’s limits work both ways

Richard Mundy’s Wednesday letter to the editor, headlined “McCain should know presidency’s limits,” berates Sen. John McCain for implying that Sen. Barack Obama will raise our taxes, a function only Congress has the ultimate power to do.

Using Mr. Mundy’s logic, how is Sen. Obama promising to lower taxes on the middle and lower class, impose a windfall profit tax on Big Oil, and increase taxes on the upper class? Gee, I thought Mr. Mundy said only Congress could do that.

You would think with his nearly four years in the Senate that Sen. Obama would, to quote Mr. Mundy’s accusation of Sen. McCain, “know a president’s limitations. Or could it be that he is lying to us to get elected?”
