A couple of days before his anointment in Denver, Barack Obama is opening an office in North Las Vegas. I know what you are thinking: So what? But a line from the news release announcing the opening is telling: “The new office will focus on outreach to the Hispanic community.” Hispanic voters’ dedication to Hillary Clinton helped her win the caucus here by 5 percentage points Jan. 19. Here and elsewhere, Obama needs to win back those voters. He is leading John McCain in polls among Hispanics. But what he needs in North Las Vegas is an overwhelming turnout, so he can boost his numbers in Clark County and offset losses elsewhere. Without that turnout, he will lose here — and probably elsewhere.
