LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Wind power is the right way to go

I used to think that going to the dentist and facing the drill was the scariest thing.

When you put a child’s fears away, you discover other drills, bigger drills that can destroy wildlife.

We have to protect our American values and determine what we are going to do individually to help protect those values.

If we choose to send in the offshore drills now we will only promote more big business for big oil companies. We have to want to sacrifice our overspending and overuse of oil and anticipate new energy technologies.

I don’t look forward to seeing wind turbines all over the Western lands, but if that is what it would take to stop the madness at the pumps, and throughout the world the creation of wars, then that is what we need to be thinking about.

Debates should continue before the drilling is permitted. I only hope that more Americans start speaking out through the daily papers and by writing letters to Congress.

I have read that more than 80 percent of Americans want the high cost of gasoline to stop. The oil companies need us to buy. The oil companies need us to demand supply. The oil companies determine how much they will charge us. We can determine our values and they cannot.

What does it mean anymore to be an American?

What does it mean to be a capitalist?

What does it mean to be a person with multiple vehicles, phones and televisions, etc.?

What does it mean to be a responsible human being?
