Gov. Jim Gibbons isn't really against the Sierra Health/UnitedHealth megamerger. At least he won’t say so explicitly. But Gibbons has voiced concerns despite his administration's imprimatur on the transaction, echoing those raised by opponents. And now, this week, he has gone even further after revelations of potential 10-figure fines in California for a UnitedHealth/PacifiCare merged entity. The merger "could prove to be less than advantageous to Nevada consumers," Gibbons warned in a news release,using language from a November letter – one in which he advised the feds to be careful in their evaluation. I bet they are thankful for that counsel. Just about as grateful as Sierra Health CEO Tony Marlon is to the governor right about now.
