LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Stimulus plan is a pittance next to Bush’s war

I am amazed that everyone is excited about an economic stimulus of $600 rebate checks to taxpayers. Granted, $600 is better than zip, zero, zilch — but not much.

I and all working American citizens have been paying approximately 40 percent of our income to support our government. Bush and his ilk now want to give me $600. What would be great would be 10 percent of my total gross income for the past seven years. That would be an economic stimulus. It would certainly stimulate me.

President Bush has already spent this tax money (and future revenue from my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren) on this war to force democracy on the Iraqi people. His legacy will be debt, debt, debt.

I want our American legacy to be that we took care of our own. Our soldiers would be home defending our borders, including building a wall at the Mexican border. We also would be policing our cities, fighting our forest fires, rebuilding our hurricane-damaged cities, shoring up our flooded areas, providing health care to all Americans and deporting illegals (to wherever they came from).

We allowed Bush and the other warmongers to hoodwink us into a war. When he is no longer in office he will be in Texas, knowing that his legacy will hang on him forever.
