LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Want better education? Pay teachers better

I read with interest Emily Richmond’s Wednesday article (“Schools need money. How best to ask?”) about the Clark County School District’s difficulties regarding how to word the upcoming school construction bond question.

In the interest of truth in advertising, how about this:

“Shall the people of Clark County authorize the issuance of bonds in the amount of $9.5 billion, when even now the Clark County School District cannot put a highly qualified, full-time, licensed teacher in each and every classroom?”

Without a highly qualified, full-time, licensed teacher in each and every classroom, these new schools will be little more than warehouses for kids, and the School District will not get the teachers to fill these classrooms until they raise teacher salaries.

The writer is a teacher in the Clark County School District.
