LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Bush, like Queeg, is becoming irrelevant

George Bush’s last days in office are becoming eerily reminiscent of Commander Queeg in the movie “The Caine Mutiny.”

Much as when Queeg’s men found him to be an incompetent, confused officer, Bush’s party has discovered how irrelevant this figurehead is. His Cabinet members have left him one by one. Even candidates from his own party do not court him for endorsements or guidance.

Similar to Queeg, Bush makes feeble attempts to recapture the glory days. Case in point — making another of the patented Bush-Cheney fear-mongering speeches to try to persuade the House to forgive his past warrantless eavesdropping and spying crimes.

There he was once again standing behind a mike spewing out the phrase “9/11” faster than Rudy Giuliani could ever dream, hoping that there was still at least one uninformed person out there who believed he ever did anything to protect the American people or strengthen the nation.

If this keeps up, Bush will be rattling ball bearings in his hands and talking about strawberries before the Republican convention.
