With social problems, it isn’t so simple

I read with interest Sandra Hanson’s Friday letter, a tirade against the National Rifle Association and guns, in which she wrote: “If we didn’t have guns, we wouldn’t need guns!”

Her logic is akin to that of a doctor who hands out painkillers to all his patients. It’s easier than doing a complex diagnosis and discovering what’s causing the pain and suffering.
