LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Washington needs a fresh approach

New York Times columnist David Brooks, in his commentary published in Wednesday’s Las Vegas Sun, reduces Obama-mania to smoke and mirrors. Perhaps, if he observes the entire stage, he could see beyond the sleight of hand.

Congress is awash in experienced career politicians. They have misused their seniority status to change our constitutional house of laws into a rigged auction. Congress has lapsed into a government of the special interests, by the insiders and lobbyists, and for the contributions, gifts and favors.

All is for sale, including our dreams and hopes and our children’s future. Most policy from Washington benefits a few insiders and is disastrous to the majority of Americans, for example: E-85 Ethanol, NAFTA and farm subsidies.

Do we really want Sen. Barack Obama sitting in Congress to learn the old ways? Obama is not a god, but he does have many intrinsic leadership qualities. He has the ability to unite, motivate and influence. He has a genuine empathy for the people.

Obama is intelligent, articulate, and, above all, honest to a fault. He speaks his mind with no fear or regard to special interests and the status quo. He has started a movement by awakening the masses. We the people have identified a major source of our problems and we intend to take back our government. Obama is our future.
