America must unite to solve our problems

On this Fourth of July I took a moment to reflect upon our country and the enormous challenges we face. We are the best country in the world, yet we would be less than honest if we didn’t recognize these challenges.

I believe we can face up to them, providing we recognize that we really and truly need to come together as one nation.

Each side of the political spectrum and big business have to recognize this as well so that we can confront the dangers we face. That means, very simply stated, that we have to join together and say that enough is enough.

We cannot continue to practice divisive politics. We have to adjust to one another’s needs for the common good.

It may be pie in the sky, but we need to say, let’s look at what the other side wants and attempt to accommodate each other.

Israel is a good example of what people have done when they feel threatened. They have joined together in unity governments.

It would be unbelievable if both political parties supported by the largest corporations in America said, let’s join together and solve the problems that face us: Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, mortgage crises, banking crises, energy crises, health care, Social Security and the enormous debt. Need I say more?

America is a dream for the world and now is the time for America to become a reality for Americans.

If we want to save what we have and have it prosper in the future, we need to address our problems as one, and both presidential candidates have to discuss these issues objectively and honestly if they want anyone to vote for them. Most folks today would vote “none of the above” if we were honest about our beliefs.
