LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Why foreign aid is out of control

My head is spinning.

The United States’ national debt ceiling is approaching $10.5 trillion. President Bush is going to sign a bill that authorizes $48 billion to fight AIDS, malaria and TB around the world. Barack Obama has a bill in the Senate (SB 2433) to be voted on shortly that would give the United Nations $850 billion to fight global poverty. (Does anybody remember the U.N. “oil for food program”?) This is in addition to the normal foreign aid and massive giveaway programs that U.S. taxpayers fork out for every year. The U.S. budget deficit is running at $400 billion a year.

People, stop this madness! I have advocated in the past that people contact their elected representatives and tell them their feelings on matters. Forget it! Not one elected representative in the House or Senate pays a whit of attention to what his constituents say.

Vote these people out of office. Give the American taxpayer a break. The U.S. taxpayer cannot tolerate the continued largesse of our elected representatives.
